Andy Hodgkinson's Scooter Ride

Last year Andy Hodgkinson’s grandson Connor was diagnosed with leukaemia and following support from PACT, Andy and a workmate decided that they would try to ride round the coast of Britain on their scooters to raise cash for and awareness of this charity.

Unfortunately due to the economic climate and rising fuel prices and after a great deal of thought, the planned ride had to be cancelled. However as Andy states “I’ve always been a bit of a crackpot and I really felt that I had let the side down a little when we cancelled the ride and since I had booked time off work, maybe there was another way? I have always had a great deal of faith in the Great British public and in their generosity, so after watching a TV programme about Saint Francis of Assisi, I had the idea that I would do the trip anyway. I would just set off on my scooter and somehow by appealing to the general public along the way, I would get donations and enough food to complete the journey.”

Andy is hoping to travel 3,000 miles in two weeks setting off from Cleethorpes on the 20th June, travelling north into Scotland up the East coast to John O’Groats. He will then go to Fort William and down the West coast to Lands End and then across the south coast to Brighton and finally back up the East coast to finish at Cleethorpes on Saturday 3rd July.

Andy thinks he is crackers but we hope that his faith in human nature will be upheld and we wish him good luck and a safe journey.

Will you support him by offering him help along the way or by giving a donation to PACT via his Justgiving website. Please spread the word about Andy’s journey through Facebook, family, friends, work colleagues etc.
